Rama Sriram 02/07/2007
The glory of our tradition and culture was beautifully brought out by our younger generation in the NETS pongal vizha held on Feb 3rd at the Littleton high school, through scintillating dances, classical music and enjoyable skits. Over hundred and twenty performers delighted the audience by their enthusiastic participation. It was a well attended show with over 500 people. The NETS president Prem, impressed the audience with a short welcome message and Mrs.Uma Nellaiappan and Poongothai Govindaraj anchored the event. The programme started with the traditional Thamizh Thai vazhthu rendered by the students of Sishu Bharathi followed by the invocatory slokas in praise of Goddesses in a sweet and expressive way by Madhumitha Sriram and Varshini Mohankumar. The classical Bharatanatyam performances rendered by Aishwarya, Soundarya and students of Ms.Jayshree Balarajamani, Ms.Aarthi Sivakumar, Ms.Gayathri Prabahakar and Vijayaraghavan Pandian were unique and impressive. The harmonious blend of classical and western songs played using keyboard, guitar and violin by Ms.Vitoboi Sathanandam, Nishanth Krishnamurty and Ruthrajeevi were uniquely distinct ones. The group dance medleys with the fast-pace steps for the tamil movie songs like Dialamo gave immense pleasure to the audience making them sing and dance along with the performers. Villupattu Ramayanam, a narrative form of story telling through folk music, rendered by Nandakumar and group and Kuruvi pattu choreographed by Priya Ramani were interesting as well. Kodi Katha Kumaran staged under the guidance of Dr.Uma Nellaippan had crisp dialogues and well enacted. Dr.Uma has been serving NETS since 1998. The highlight of the event was the amazing Kuchipudi Tarangam by Hima Bindhu,Aishwarya, Akash and Siddhata choreographed efficiently by Sumitra Anand. It was very special when Hima brought out the highlight of the Kuchipudi Tarangam holding a pot filled with water on her head with a wonderful coordination and expression."I was a bit nervous though," said Hima after the performance was over. Hat's off to the team efforts. Movie songs, vidukatahikal - quiz also entertained the audience very well. Athai Marumagan dialogue by Hamsa and Hariharan was musical. Balaji Sathanandam gave a brief update on the future NETS events, introducing a few new committee members who magnanimously offered a helping hand to make this event a great success. He also introduced the NETS youth group lead by Aishwarya Balaji who contributed to the success of this event as well. Vidhya Kalyanaraman rendered vote of thanks at the end thanking everyone for their contributions towards this event including the sponsors. Dinner was served by the Mysore restaurant of Nashua,NH. Last but not the least, NETS encouraged all the participants with the trophies which is the main motive of these culturals since we want to preserve our culture through our kids in a far away land.
