Press Release 12/20/2006
Hindu University of America and The California College of Ayurveda are pleased to announce a Memorandum of Understanding to offer Master’s Degrees in Ayurvedic Science. Sharing the unique dimension of Hindu thought and traditions in the U.S. is the vision of Dr. T.R.N. Rao, president of the Hindu University of America (HUA). Bringing the Ayurvedic wisdom of the East to the healing arena of the West has always been the mission of Dr. Marc Halpern, founder of the California College of Ayurveda (CCA). Together, in a collaborating partnership under a new Memorandum of Understanding, these two dynamic organizations are working hand in hand to marry the vision and mission bringing them both further than either has been before.
“The profession of Ayurveda is growing very fast with more people looking toward holistic alternatives than ever before. As the most complete form of holistic medicine practiced in the world today, Ayurveda holds the promise of optimal health and peace of mind. Quality education is the foundation of preparation for any long-lasting career. This quality is crucial in taking a person from having just a passion for Ayurveda to experiencing a successful profession in the Ayurvedic arena. This partnership between our two institutions allows California College of Ayurveda graduates to take their philosophical education to the next level. This training provides an additional level of information and credentials that ensure patients they are in qualified hands,†shared Dr. Halpern.
Dr. Rao said, “We at Hindu University of America are excited to afford students with the opportunity to further their career by building on their CCA education to obtain a Master’s degree in Ayurvedic Sciences. Our 35 faculty members will provide CCA students with an exceptionally advanced education that will ensure their competence and the confidence of their patients.â€
CCA is the first-established and longest-running State approved Ayurvedic Educational program in the United States. Founded by Dr. Marc Halpern in 1995, the College was originally established in Grass Valley, CA where it continues to host its main educational campus plus the Ayurveda Healthcare Center. Full program classes for Ayurvedic Health Educator (AHE), Ayurvedic Health Practitioner (AHP), and Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist (CAS) are also offered in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Many of these certifications are in coordination with various Sivananda Ashram locations and local yoga studios.
With the new Memorandum of Understanding between the HUA and CCA, students of both organizations have the opportunity to gain the educational experience and professional credentials necessary to create a dynamic and healthy practice in the holistic health community. CCA graduates with existing Bachelors degrees are eligible to apply for the HUA Master’s of Ayurveda degree after they have completed the AHP or CAS programs. With the distance learning options of both educational institutions, no corner of the world is too far for a student to reach out and gain the highest quality Ayurvedic education available.
“Having the convenience to pursue the majority of my studies in the comfort of my own home is perfect for helping me feel confident and fully prepared to make Ayurveda my life’s work. I’m grateful that both the HUA and CCA offer programs that work within my personal schedule. It’s what makes it possible for me to fulfill my dream of supporting myself and my family through an Ayurvedic career,†stated Sharon Norlund, a member in the growing field of individuals seeking to bring harmony into their personal and professional life.
