Music Review - Kabul Express

The music is reminiscent of desert sands, of adventure and soothing tones. Music India online says “Debutant music composer Raghav Sacher gets a trump card to his credit with the music of this film starring John Abraham and Arshad Warsi, directed by documentary director Kabir Khan, and produced under Yash Raj banner. Different melodious streaks fill your ears with pleasure with songs like Kabul Fiza, Banjar, Keh Raha Mera Dil, Yah Main Aaya Kahan, taking you on the route of pleasure ride”

Indeed the album is refreshing different and experimental in tone and voice. It is an eclectic mix of Indian and Arabic music. The first song in the album, Kabul Fiza sets the pace with a qawwali in the background half way through its music. The voice of Raghav Sachar takes a while getting used to but it is a pleasing number. The second song, Banjar is sung by three different singers in the album, Shubha Mudgal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kay Kay. Each time it takes on a different take but I liked Shubha Mudgal, the best, especially when she enunciates the “Yeh Raat Banjar Hai, with her lovely deep voice.”Banjar" means "barren" and Shubha Mudgal tells the story of the land with traces of hope even in the most desperate circumstances. Sivamani's histrionics with drums and Niladri Kumar's electric sitar blend well with the theme. Kabul Express Theme - Instrumental (Julius Packiam) starts with using a flute sound as base and soft haunting voices  in the background add to its beauty. This is a beautiful composition and begs to be played repeatedly. This is a score that will resonate with all and is very stylish using various string instruments.  Keh Raha Mera Dil  of Raghav Sachar, is very much a Bollywood style number and pretty predictable. The voice of Raghav SacharIn  is appealing and distinct in tone
Yeh Main Aaya Kahaan Hoon - Raghav Sachar, is slightly different as well as the Kabul Fiza (Remix ) both resound with techo music  Overall it's a great compilation by Raghav using techno, urban, Indian and qawwali sounds, offbeat yet contemporary.

One that I would certainly recommend to listen and can also be a wonderful holiday gift.
