Harish Dang Receives Community Service Award

Harish Dang the beloved host of Sounds of India, the oldest running
radio show in New England was presented the Community service award by
the United India Association at their Diwali function that was held at
the Brookline High School on October 15, 2006. “We applaud his
dedication to the community. Harish Dang has presented the community
news on his show completely free of cost for over twenty-five years.
Sounds of India is a great service and we salute its host†said Mr.
Kidar Vaid who presented the award to Harish Dang. The
colorful show hosted by Sutanuka Debasri Basu and Rakashi Chand was a
smashing success showcasing a variety of dance and music numbers and
featuring over a hundred performers. The culture show
opened with Bhajans sung by Kumkum Diwali accompanied by Mool Raj
Mathur and Ranjani Saigal. Pushpanjali by Suparna Banerjee and
Classical Dance by the the Triveni School of dance, and Tillana by the
students of Jayashree Bala Rajamani followed. Tiny tots from the
Eastern Rhythms School of dance under the direction of Ranjani Saigal
presented Radha Kaise Na Jale from the movie Lagaan. Suhani,
Shriya, Neha and Juhi livened up the stage with an item choreographed
to where is the party tonight. A dance by Ranjani Saigal’s
studentd choreographed to Lata Mangeshkar’s rendition of Vaishanava
Janato described the ideal devotee as one who helps others. High energy
numbers including Punjabi Masala, Remix Medly by Megha Agarwal
and Indian Pop Remix by the Malhotra brothers had the audience
tapping their feet to the beat. Rakashi Chand’s presented a
graceful Mujra. Giddha by Bhangara Beats brought yet another nice touch
to the presentation. Prachi Gupta dazzled the audience with the rhythms
of Kathak. Bollywood Remix and Desi Mix followed. The grand
finale was a presentation by Boston Bhangara. A lovely dinner priced
sold at a nominal cost was a lovely treat. UIA Diwali celebration
was a grand event attended by over 350 people. United India
also held its election and formed a new committee. For more information
