Santoor Maestro Pundit Nandkishor Muley To Perform In Providence

Offices of the Multicultural Affairs and Student Life at RISD and Raagmaala cordially invite you to a Santoor (Hammered Dulcimer) concert “Masters of Indian Classical Musicâ€. The concert will feature two of the finest Indian Classical Musicians - Nandkishor Muley (Santoor) and Aditya Kalyanpur (Tabla).

NANDKISHOR MULEY grew up in a family of distinguished musicians and received vocal training from an early age. He later mastered tabla and Kathak dance. As a teenager he heard the celebrated santoor player Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, who later accepted him as a disciple.
Nandkishor has played in concerts and festivals in India, Germany, France, Finland, Russia, and the United States, to name a few. He is the recipient of the coveted Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik award (equivalent of Grammy) in Germany. Currently based in Berlin, Nandkishor is active in the teaching of Indian musical arts and in spreading Indian culture throughout the European continent. He has performed in the Festival of India in Berlin and throughout Germany, in the World Music Festival in Helsinki and in many other major musical events. Several of these performances have been recorded for radio broadcast.
An officially recognized musician for All-India Radio, he also spends several months of each year performing and teaching in India.
Nandkishor is recognized as a leading proponent of the santoor. Since 1994, he has been teaching Indian Music in the Central Florida region sponsored by Asian Cultural Association (ACA), Rollins College, and Stetson University. In 2001, Pundit Muley was awarded the Excellent Art and Cultural Educator award from United Arts of Florida for his contribution of Indian music and culture to various Florida Schools and Universities. http://www.santoorworld.com/ ADITYA KALYANPUR is a disciple of the great Tabla legends ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain of the Punjab Gharana (school). His style consists of bold and clear execution of syllables, pinpoint precision in rhythm coupled with a colossal repertoire of compositions and improvisational techniques, making his concerts a sheer joy.
We hear Aditya’s tabla ringing in the background of the film “Everybody Says I am Fine†where the background scores were composed by Zakir Hussain.
He has performed with Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Dr. Prabha Atre, Dr. Mrs. N Rajam, Ustad Shamim Ahmed Khan, Ustad Sultan Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pandit VishwaMohan Bhat, Pundit Satish Vyas, Kathak dancers such as Shama Bhate, Sunaiyana Hazarilal, Madhurita Sarang, and many Carnatic musicians, Jazz musicians and other international artists.
