It has been a while since we have seen something special from Anu Malik. Jaan-E-Mann is a lovely romantic track by this composer where the lyrics are by none other than the king of romance, Gulzar. The movie is a Sajid Nadiadwala production featuring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta.

The track opens with ‘Humko Maloom hai’ where there is a narration by Salman Khan. The lines by Gulzar is beautiful

"Mohabbaton mein jeene wale khushnaseeb hain, mohabbaton mein marne waale bhi ajeeb hain;
Azeem hai hamari dastaan jaan-e-mann, faaslon mein rehte hain lekin kareeb hain"

Sonu Nigam sings the song in a really masterful manner. The melody is original. The orchestration is beautiful though complicated. The mood varies during the song . Sadhana Sargam joins in and makes this a special creation.  A lovely Qawali follows.  'Jaane Ke Jaane Na'  is a really fun number where Anu Malik has Sonu Nigam and Sukhwinder Singh getting into a nice little duet with great effect. Sonu Nigam is exceptional in the qawalli  while Krishna adds on with his voiceover. Gulzar even has a sprinkling of English words in this Qawaali. A 'club remix' of the song comes after original versions of all the tracks are over and it turns out to be a true DJ mix with an expected add-on-the-pep effect.

“Tanhayi” or loneliness is almost palpable in the next number ‘Ajnabi Shehar’  which is perhaps on of the most beautiful pieces in this creation.  The use of the flute succeeds in bringing out the loneliness. Gulzar’s lyrics are just right and this song could top music charts. We move from Tanhayi onto ‘Dard’ in the next number ‘Sau Dard’ which is another lovely presentation by Sonu Nigam.  Suzanne's voice has been used to create a chorus effect. The 'Grove Mix' of 'Sau Dard' that comes after a while and unlike most remixes floating on the music stands, this one actually 'stands' out for itself and gives the track a different dimension by actually creating a groovy feel!

After two slow moving romantic numbers ‘Superstar’ helps change the pace. Kunal Ganjawala begins the show with Sunidhi Chauhan and Adnan Sami present this rhythmic number. It was lovely to hear a touch of Harry Belafonte tunes in the number. The  'Club Mix' of the song  doesn't sound much different from the original which itself is high on rhythm, arrangements and a high adrenaline outcome.
The next song is 'Kubool Kar Le',  which is a song about a man trying to woo a girl and a group of friends motivating her to say yes, it mainly takes a pep-n-rhythm route with Udit Narayan taking the lead. Rahul Vaidya, Amit Sana and Prajakta Shukre join in and do a fine job.
This track is a great comeback for Anu Malik. The track will certainly help sell the film which could be quite a hit with the star studded cast. Jaan-E-Maan seems like a winning number for Sajid Nadiadwala.
