Actress Jaya Bachchan on Monday took the oath as a Rajya Sabha member, while her husband and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan watched the proceedings from the gallery. Bachchan returns to the Upper House as a Samajwadi Party member after she was disqualified by President APJ Abdul Kalam for holding an office of profit. Six months ago, she forfeited her Rajya Sabha membership for simultaneously holding the post of chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council. 

Bollywood fans in the UK will be able to buy 12- inch dolls immortalising Bollywood's leading stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra from August one. The first four actors under the brand name 'Bollywood Legends' is being launched by toy manufacturer and distributor Spin Master Toys UK along with entrepreneur Shameen Jivraj, who had come up with the concept four years ago. She recently approached Spin Master Toys UK to handle the UK distribution of the dolls.

Aamir Khan has purchased a property worth Rs 7 crore (Rs 70 million) measuring around 2 acres at Panchgani, the hill station where he got married a few months ago.Officials at the sub-registrar’s office at Wai tehsil in Satara district were quite taken aback when the superstar walked into the old shanty-like office with wife Kiran Rao and lawyers in tow to register the sale. The property — which measures around 9,787 sq metres, roughly 2 acres — was bought from the current owners Homi and Zia Adanjias for Rs 7 crore. It was built by well known boxer and former army Captain Aspi Adanjia. He paid Rs 42 lakh (Rs 4.2 million) as stamp duty and Rs 3,000 as registration charges for the property. When contacted, an official at the registrar’s office said, “Though Aamir Khan bought a property at Rs 7 crore as per government valuation, the worth of the property doesn’t exceed more than Rs 82 lakh (Rs 8.2 million).”

Besides acting, Akshaye Khanna does seem to have a talent for singing. Reports have it that Akshaye has lent his vocal chords for movie Aap Ki Khatir . The film is a romantic comedy in which Akshaye is paired opposite Priyanka Chopra . Akshaye recently recorded a ‘Nazm’ which happens to be the title track of the movie. The couplet sung by Akshaye has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya and written by Sameer. The ‘Nazm’ in the song bears resemblance to the yesteryear romantic hit ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ rendered by Amitabh Bachchan.

Mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan has scoffed rumours that there is tension between him and superstar Shah Rukh Khan . A leading tabloid reports that Bachchan has refuted such news as baseless and added that his wife Jaya Bachchan is very fond of SRK. The tabloid quotes Bachchan as saying, “Shahrukh is a member of our family and even Jaya doesn’t discriminate between Abhishek and him. People have spoken rubbish things about him that he didn’t appear for the IIFA awards in Dubai only because of tense and bad relations with me. It is plain rubbish.” The tabloid also quoted SRK as saying: “It’s complete rubbish to say I have bad relations with Bachchanji. Some people even went to the extent of saying that I am upset with them because Yashraj Films have replaced me for Abhishek in one of the films. I want to prove false all these rumours by telling everyone that we are having very cordial relations and my children are very fond of Abhishek Bachchan. They like his movies very much and have great regard for him. There are very useless things to spread about us. People who don’t have any work just spread all this rubbish.”

The latest buzz doing the rounds is that John Abraham has decided to go bald, but that is just for one movie. The film is called Rockstar and will be directed by Imtiaz Ali of of Socha Na Tha fame. John plays the role of a rock star for the first time.   Director Imtiaz Ali says “Yes, John plays a singer-cum-guitar player in the film. Essentially it’s a love story with some fantastic music by A R Rahman.” Imtiaz claims that the film will have some really different and fascinating music. The film revolves around the journey of a couple, but the actress opposite John has yet to be cast. John has already begun to take guitar classes to get a better grip on his character.
