Books - Virgin Comics Launches Indian Comic Books

The recently formed Virgin Comics, a new media company between Sir Richard Branson, Deepak Chopra, Shekhar Kapur and Gotham Entertainment Group, just released the first issues under its "SHAKTI" Indian comic line, which taps anew wave of Indian creators to publish comics for a global audience.
The first Virgin Comic, entitled DEVI was created by acclaimed filmmakerShekhar Kapur (Elizabeth, Four Feathers) with new comic magazines such as RAMAYAN REBORN by Deepak Chopra also on the way.
Based in Bangalore India, the company currently houses nearly 100 artists and writers in a creative studio and is focused on two areas : the creation of original stories and characters tapping into the world of Indian mythology in a unique compelling and entertaining way and also collaborating with talent all over the world . According to Sharad Devarajan, CEO, the company has an eye on the rapidly evolving entertainment market (550 million kids uner the age of 20 in the next 10 years in India alone). The intitial goal is to create graphic novels subsequently to be developed into films, television, animation, gaming , wireless content, online, merchandise and more
