Ranjani Saigal 04/06/2006 Sandhya Narayanan, a high school senior from The solo recital was a fitting finale to showcase the seven years of training she had received. Four of the seven years of the training was under the guidance of Beth Murray from Sandhya picked a program that included several challenging pieces. She opened the recital with Bach’s Invention No. 8 in F Major and Invention No. 13 in A Minor. A Waltz in B Minor, op 69. No 2 by Chopin followed. She and her brother presented a duet, Allegro, from Clementi’s “Duettino in Câ€. After a brief intermission, Sandhya proceeded to play Haydn’s Sonatina in C Major. This was followed by a composition, Dance of the Dolls by the famous Russian composer, Shostakovich. She concluded the recital with two compositions by Schumann – Knecht Rupert and Mignon. Sandhya comes from a family who is very interested in music. “I need to thank my mother Mallika Narayanan and my grandmother for introducing me to music†says Sandhya. Her love for music shone through her performance. Classical music requires a lot of dedicated hard work and it was wonderful see the hard work that Sandhya had put in to make the recital a success. Some of her selections were quite challenging. “I really need to thank my teacher Beth Murray for providing the right guidance. She has been a great teacher and a friend for the past four years†says Sandhya. Sandhya has a long history of music and dance. She learns South Indian Classical music from her grandmother. In addition, Sandhya has learned Bharatnatyam for over nine years. Sandhya will be graduating with honors from Burlington High and hopes to pursue a career in molecular biology and Spanish. Sandhya is a three-season athlete. She competes in cross country, winter and spring track. She is a member of the Spanish Club, the editor of a literary and art magazine and she competes in the school Quiz Bowl Team.
