The Ides of March have come and gone, the world celebrated the International Women’s month in March, daylight savings made spring forward and we had a bout of snow in April. It is a sizzle and a whimper – the weather, but even Life can be that way too. It is our attitude towards it that can dictate the way we live it. And a positive and energetic attitude is certainly what dictates the women who are our top stories in this issue. Meet Sowmya Viswananthan who recently was awarded the Hind Rattan Award by the NRI society in India. Her accomplishments includes many, from being a best teacher to an involved medical practitioner. Shefali Sunderlal, President of CRY America has been a dedicated and committed member of CRY for many years and her efforts certainly makes a difference in the cause of child’s rights.
Two inspiring stories, a whole lot of upcoming exciting events and some good entertainment. A fortnight to go by with all this. Give us your feedback and share your ideas at info@lokvani.com
While we wait for spring to reinvent itself !

Here is a petition for support of the Narmada Andolan circulated by its supporters
http://petitions.aidindia.org/narmada_petition/
This is a novel petition that has gone online just now and we are challenging
the SSP dam engineers to take back their statement that Rs 2500 crore power
will be generated every year (as they have spalshed all over Indian express
this sunday) or be willing to sign a bond to pay the amount that is not
generated. We are esplly targetting people with science and engineering
background -- faculty in IITs, professionals in USA etc -- to sign the
statement so that there is a scientific challenge. But everyone can sign the
petition - whether scientists or not.
In the petition there is also a demand to stop dam construction and
reference`to medhas fast and condition as well.")
