LearnQuest Hosts Indian Classical Music Conference 2006

If classical music is your passion, you’re in for a real treat!  On Saturday, April 15th and Sunday, April 16th, LearnQuest Academy of Music will host a two-day Indian classical music conference (Sangeet Sammelan) at the Fine Arts Center of Regis College in Weston.

This first-of-its-kind event in Massachusetts, offering almost 10 hours of continuous music each day, will feature some of India’s top instrumental and vocal artists, spanning several generations and legacies.

Some highlights:
*  Conference Theme: Hindustani Classical Music and its interactions with other classical music styles (Carnatic and Western Jazz)  
*  Covers most major instruments of Indian classical music (sitar, sarod, shehnai, violin, flute, tabla)  
*  Includes five vocal music items - one in the ancient Dhrupad style and four in the contemporary Kheyal style  
*  A lecture by Prof. George Ruckert of MIT on "A Historical Perspective on Indian Classical Music"
*  A lecture by Ustad Imrat Khan on "Gayaki and Tantrakari styles in Indian Instrumental Music"  
*  A flute-sitar Carnatic-Hinustani jugalbandi (duet)  
*  Indian influenced original Jazz, and a unique item called "Music Triveni" where the artists from three streams of
   classical music (Carnatic, Hindustani and Jazz) perform together for the common purpose of musical expression
