Manisha Savla thrilled the audience at Milan Restaurant on June 10th with an evening of ‘Kal, Aaj or Kal’,
a musical extravaganza. The event was brought to the Boston area by the
Savy Media group. Melody Queen Manisha Savla and her group are from
Bombay. The group sang songs of Lata, Asha, Geeta Dutt, Sunidhi
Chauhan, Alka Yagnik, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Rafi, Abhijeet, Sonu
Nigam, and Udit Narayan and included other features such as Raas
Garbha. The event/tour was promoted by Jayesh Mehta, Riya
Entertainment, NJ. Manisha Savla, had her debut with the
band Beaters in 1994 at S.N.D.T. Ground, Santacruz (W), Mumbai. Manisha
is already famous for her album 'Don't Touch My Chunaria'.
She is also coming up with her new album 'Don't Cheat Your Heart' with
vocal guru, Shankar Mahadevan. Having been a stage singer for almost a
decade now, Savla is a veteran in the industry. A native from Kutch,
Gujarat, Savla has performed live on stage with the best in the
industry, be it Shankar Mahadevan, Abhijeet, Hari Haran, Sudesh Bhosle
or Shaan, apart from singing in one film, Pratha.
At the Boston
event, she sang songs such as Yeh Dil Mujhe Bata De, Hai Rama Rama Ho,
Puch Mera Kya Naam Re, Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar, etc. Her co-singer Ali,
kept every one thumping with songs such as Yeh Mera Prem Patra Par Kar,
Pukarta Chala Hai Dil and many others. The two sang duets such as Jo
Wada Kiya Woh Nibhana Pare Ga and others.
Two of the local
artists Priya and Rahul started the second half with two songs from
Hamraaz – ‘Door Na Jana Bhool Na Jana’ and Chand Dhalne Laga – ‘Pehla
Pehla Pyar Hai’. Lokvani had a chance to talk to Manisha Savla and Bipin Chunawala, her business partner and drumist.
Lokvani: Is this your first trip to the US. If not, what makes you come back? Manisha/Bipin:
This is our 10th trip to the US. What makes us come back is the
appreciation we receive from the audience. In India, we are taken for
granted where as in the US people come to talk to us after the show and
appreciate our work.
Lokvani: You are a playback singer as well. What is your opinion of the direction of the film Industry? Manisha/Bipin:
Today the films run based on the talent of the directors. Unless they
are good, it is hard to make good films and ‘fool’ the people. Good
films by good directors will always do well.
Lokvani: How are today’s songs different from the golden oldies? Manisha/Bipin:
Today the emphasis is just on rhythms and dance and has little to do
with words. As such music trend changes every 5 years and very few
songs have a long life.
Lokvani: Thanks for taking the time to talk to us. Manisha/Bipin: Thanks.
