Tapas Ghosh, has been a resident of Northboro, MA for the part few
years and has had a passion for singing since he was four years
old. He learnt the basics of music from his sister, Mrs.
Maitreyee Mitro and his father, Mr. Tarun Ghosh who are well known
singers in Calcutta. Since coming to the Boston/Worcester area, he has
been very active with the Bengali Association of Worcester and has
recently rendered concerts in Connecticut, Maryland and Virginia. Tapas
gave his first full-length performance at the Marlborough High School
on April 30th. His group is called the Tarun Musical Company. 100% of
the funds raised at the inaugural event were donated to the Sri
Maharshi Academy for the Blind in Bangalore, India. “I have
grown up loving music as part of a family ritual. Music is my passion
and I like all kinds of music. My favorite time was during Durga Puja
when I used to perform everyday at various gatherings. I feel that
music is something which comes from the heart. In all my years in
this country, the one good companion was my music until I met my wife.
Once I got married, my wife really wanted me to pursue my life’s dream
of music and supported me in all aspects,” says Ghosh.
Satya Mitra gave the opening remarks saying that "Tapas is an ordinary
man with extraordinary passion for music but it is Lakshmi, Tapas
Ghosh’s wife, who is the true inspiration and force behind the show."
In their honor, Satya recited this shayari: TERA HUNAR, TERI AWAAZ TERA HAR GAZAL MERA SAAZ HAI KI MAI HUMSAFAR HU TERA KI MAI HUMKADAM HU TERA IS RISHTE KA MUJHE NAAZ HAI BEHAD KAMYAABI MILE TUJHE DIL KI YEHI TAMANNA HAI YEH SAPNA TERA SUCH HO JAI YE TO MERA BHI EK SAPNA HAI
KHABIND (husband) HAI TU MERA TERA SUB KUCH MERA APNA HAI BUS TERI MANZIL TAK POHUCHA DU TUJHE AAJ RAAT, YEHI TAMANNA HAI BUS YEHI DIL KI TAMANNA HAI KI TERI MANZIL TAK MAI PAHUNCHA DU TUJHE KI TERI MANZIL TAK MAI PAHUNCHA DU TUJHE KI TERI MANZIL TAK MAI PAHUNCHA DU TUJHE
An Evening of Melody consisted of Bollywood Karaoke hits. From the
haunting melodies of the 60's to the lilting songs of the 70's and
80's, to the present day foot-tapping numbers -Tapas' repertoire
covered them all. According to Ghosh, “Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi
are amongst my favorite singers from the yesteryears and Kumar Sanu and
Sonu Nigam from the recent times.” Some of the songs that he sang were Aaj rapat jaye to hume naa
uthaiyo, An evening in Paris, Phoolo ki rani, Chu kar mere man ko kiya
tune kya ishara, Mere sapno ki rani, Kuch na kaho, Har ghari badal rahi
hai, and many others. He was accompanied on the stage by Binota Das
from New York for duets such as Dil hai ki manta nahin, Tere mere Milan
ki ye raina and Kaho na pyar hai and many others. It was an
evening to remember for the nearly 150 people in audience and we hope
to enjoy many more performances of his in the future.
