Violin Maestro Dr. Sangeeta Shankar Comes To Rhode Island

Violin Maestro Dr.
Sangeeta Shankar will be performing at the Blackstone River Theatre,
549 Braod Street in Cumberland, Rhode Island on May 28th at 8:00
pm. This event is coordinated by Raagmaala's Indian Classical
Music Contert Series and has been made possible by a grant fron
the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Sangeeta comes
from a family of violinists. Her grand father was Maestro Narayana
Iyer, a unique violinist and master of both Carnatic (South Indian) and
Hindustani (North Indian) traditions. Her uncle is the Carnatic violin
maestro T.N. Krishnan. She studied with her mother the revered
violinist Dr. N. Rajam. Sangeeta gave her first concert at the age of
13. She studied music and also completed her doctoral thesis in music
at Benaras Hindu University, India. Dr. Shankar has
collaborated with Grammy Winners Bela Fleck and Vishwamohan Bhatt on a
well-received album Tabula Rasa. She produced a 26 episode music-based
series Sur Sadhana for Indian National Television. She has several CDs
in the market. She has given concerts in India, USA and Europe. She is
co-founder of a music company “Legendary Legacy”, that has made
available recordings of the masters of Indian Music and promising new
comers. Vinayak Netke, a noted Tabla (Indian percussion)
player will accompany Dr. Sangeeta Shankar. He has accompanied several
musicians in India and abroad and represents the famous Farrukhabad
