An Evening Of Entertainment - The Boston Pledge's Tsunami Fundraiser

Chitra Parayath 04/04/2005
The Boston Pledge is organizing a fundraising event to help the victims
of Tsunami Disaster on April 24th, 2005, Sunday at Babson College.
Proceeds will be forwarded to the Survivors of Tsunami.
Organizations coast to coast are committed to raise money to help
the victims of the Tsunami and most of us have given already to
charities involved with the relief efforts. What many of us do not
realize is the extent of the devastation and the time, effort and funds
it will take to bring back any semblance of normality to the lives of
those affected. To address this issue, many local
organizations continue to work day and night, trying tirelessly to
raise money so that relief operations can continue unabated in the most
affected areas. TBP is one such organization that is bringing
together volunteers from different area non-profit orgs to put together
a quality cultural function to entertain as well as raise awareness and
funds for this worthy cause. As citizens of the world, we have to
fulfill this obligation to help our fellow men through times of
distress and strife and this may just one of the most effective ways to
do so. This is another chance for people to give, to donate to help
those in need. Only sustained and long-term efforts can make a
difference at this point in time.” Said Sumita Basu, TBP member and one of the main forces behind the upcoming event, “The program is of the highest quality, these talented local artists have all agreed to perform for us, free of charge.
Among those slated to perform are the popular singer Soman Saha,
Shobona Chatterjee, Sreeman Akash Majumdar and the group Sangeetayan,
led by Sagarika Kanjilal. There will also be a theme dance by Parna
Balal, a shadow dance directed by Aparna Das, Melodies of life and
death, a unique group music in Bengali, directed by Taposh Talukdar
(with the help of Amra Kojon) and ‘Babuder Dalkukure’, a one act play
by Manoj Mitra directed by Nishit Mukherjee . Dr. Fritz Fleischmann,
Dean of Faculty, Babson College is expected to inaugurate the program.” Key members of TBP said in a joint statement:
“The Purpose is to Promise, A promise of Love and Care...it is never
too late and nor any donation is too little, as we are giving the
priceless gift of LOVE from our heart. TBP needs each one of you to support this CAUSE. Please do come!
The recent Tsunami while a great tragedy for the people who were
affected by it, it is a wake up call for all of us, that we leave in
fragile planet where our only strength is in universal brotherhood. In
order to celebrate that spirit of brotherhood on April 24th may we
invite you to support the fund raising event in reverence to the
victims of Tsunami and in reverence to rich heritage we are part
of. We hope the Tsunami which was no doubt devastating, will create the
spiritual Tsunami in our heart to create a world where we could come
together to for great causes. As indicated by a few, we
understand that most of the people have already contributed to the
cause. However, from the first hand experience of a Missionary
organization engaged in the relief work in Andaman and Nicobar Islands,
it appears that it will take several years to resettle and rehabilitate
the survivors. It is never too late and no contribution is too little
to extend a helping hand to these unfortunate people who became
orphaned by nature's fury with no fault of their own.
We received overwhelming response from the performers who are from the
local talent pool and excel in their own areas of performance. TBP is
grateful to them for their donation to the cause, on the top of their
contribution in terms of time to practice, rehearse and put up the show
on the day of the event. Please join hands with us to applaud their
effort in support of the cause. Please also join us in thanking Babson College for their support to the cause by letting us use their facility.
Please come forward. This is your opportunity to make a difference in
the lives of some for a very small amount of money, and also enjoy the
show. Please call us or you may purchase the tickets at the door. "
