Chitra Parayath 01/27/2005 The IAGB celebration of the anniversary India’s Republic Day, scheduled to be held at the Lexington High School on January 22, 2005 was cancelled due to the blizzard. It has now been rescheduled to take place at the Burlington High School on February 5, 2005 from 5PM until 9PM. We invite everyone to be a part of this signature and second largest event of this kind in our Boston community. This year’s program will be dedicated to the memory of the victims of the deadly Tsunami. This tragedy will be deeply etched into our historical memory and as a community we shall do our best to commemorate the tragedy with dignity and poise. The event will include an elaborate cultural show with traditional and folk dancing, music and Indian crafts. Additionally, there will be vendors representing many sectors of the Indian community in Boston from non-profits assistance organizations looking for support, to Indian restaurants for top- notch Indian delights. "This year too we have worked very hard to bring to our audience a variety show that is exciting and fun. People are sure to be surprised and impressed at all the tremendous talent that we have, right here in our community. This year, to help Indian arts and culture to thrive, we have added a regional flavor to the program. I don’t want to give anything away! So, you can all attend and be surprised!" Said Culture Committee Coordinator Mr. Rajinikanth. The event is free to attend for the general public. All races, religions, and cultures are encouraged to join in the evening's festivities and get a taste of India right in Boston! Better get to the auditorium early as seats tend to get filled up real quick. The event is now an annual tradition in the Greater Boston area. Said Dr. Anupam Wali, President, IAGB, “IAGB, as the premier Indian-American Organization in New England, seeks to work with various other associations of Indian-Americans in uniting, preserving and showcasing our cultural heritage. Besides organizing large community events such as Indian Independence and Republic day celebrations, IAGB has sponsored and supported various charitable causes and community development programs. IAGB endeavors to be the voice of the Indian-American community in Greater Boston. Saheli, an affiliate of the India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB), is a group dedicated to helping South Asian women in Boston and surrounding areas. It provides friendship, support, guidance and resources to women in need. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
