North Karnataka Style Bevu Bella Drink For Yugadi Festival

The North Karnataka style Bevu Bella recipe is a tasty and easy to prepare and celebrate Yugadi festival. This Bevu Bella is prepared using roasted gram (Putani), new Tamarind, Raw Mango pieces, Jaggery, Badam, Cashews, Cardamom, Neem flower and Neem leaves. Every ingredient has its own significance - Tamarind signifies unpleasantness, Jaggery signifies happiness, raw mango signifies surprise, pepper signifies fear, neem signifies sadness and salt signifies panic. Try this Bevu Bella drink for the Yugadi festival and enjoy.

 

Without consuming the mixture of Neem and Jaggery, Yugadi celebration is not complete. Bevu-Bella signifies that we have to give importance to both Joys and sorrows, which are inevitable in everyone's life path. Every region has its own variation for preparing Bevu-Bella mixture/drink.

Ingredients for Bevu Bella:

·      1/4 cup roasted gram or Putani

·      2 - 4 tbsp. Jaggery

·      4 Badam or almonds

·      10-12 raisins

·      2 - 4 cashews

·      1 tbsp. neem flower

·      1-2 cardamom

 

·      1 small raw mango pieces

·      1 Big lemon size tamarind (soak it 10 before)

·      1 Earthen pot to keep the drink cool

·      1 banana

·      Few grape pieces

·      Few pieces of cantaloupe/honey dew

 

Instructions:

·      Wash the earthen pot nicely

·      Make Tamarind juice and pour it to the pot

 

·      Powder the roasted gram using a mixer grinder.

·      Add in Badam and cashews.

·      Add in Jaggery as per your taste.

·      Add in neem flower petals.

·      Add in cardamom. Grind everything together again.

·      If needed adjust the Jaggery.

·      Mash all the fruit pieces and add it to the drink

·      Bevu Bella ready to serve now. Enjoy this cool drink throughout the day with family members, relatives and friends festival
