Sri Lakshmi Temple Hosts Fundraiser For LA Fire Victims

Press Release
03/14/2025

In a heartfelt effort to support those affected by the devastating Los Angeles fires, classical dance and music gurus from the New England area, under the leadership of Prafulla Velury, came together with Sri Lakshmi Temple to organize a fundraiser. The event, held on March 8, 2025, aimed to raise funds for World Central Kitchen, which is providing meals to fire victims.

The fires have left a trail of destruction, displacing families and devastating livelihoods, especially for many who provide household services. Recognizing the urgent need for support, Dance Guru Prafulla Velury envisioned a day of music and dance to raise funds. She reached out to fellow gurus, and the response was immediate and overwhelming. In search of a venue, she approached Sri Lakshmi Temple, which readily agreed to collaborate for this noble cause.

The 10-hour-long program featured performances by students of renowned gurus, including Aparna Balaji, Dayalini Lingesh, Gaurishankar Chandrashekhar, Jayashree Bala Rajamani, Jeyanthi Ghatraju, Kalaimangai Anbalagan, Krishna Sampada Velury, Neena Gulati, Prafulla Velury, Sapna Krishnan, Shankar Subramanian, Srikanth Gomattam, Sriram Rekhapalli, Suman Adishesh, Uma Shankar, and Vyju Prasad. The performances captivated the audience, showcasing the rich traditions of Indian classical dance and music, all for a meaningful cause.

“The temple is here to serve the community, and when tragedies occur in the US, it is important for us to step up and help. We are honored to partner with these talented dance and music gurus in supporting this cause,” said Dr. Anil Saigal, Chairman of the YCEP committee at the temple.

Reflecting on the event, Prafulla Velury shared, “I am grateful that this idea turned into reality with the support of so many teachers. Their dedication and generosity made this event possible. I truly hope the funds we raised can make even a small difference in the lives of those affected.”

With a spirit of compassion, culture, and community, this fundraiser stood as a testament to how the arts can serve as a powerful force for relief and healing.
