Press Release 01/16/2025 Hindu Heritage
Day 2025 Hindu Heritage Day was started in 1997 as a way to
celebrate our great Hindu Culture and Heritage. Since then, it has grown to
include something for everyone, young, old and young at heart. This year,
Hindu Heritage Day will be celebrated on May 10, starting at 3 PM, in
Marlborough Middle School, Marlborough, MA. Nari Shakti: This year’s theme is Nari
Shakti. Hindu philosophical traditions beautifully emphasize the complementary
nature of masculine and feminine energies, highlighting that true creation
emerges from the harmonious union of Prakriti (the feminine principle) and
Purush (the masculine principle). The divine feminine deities—Durga, Lakshmi,
Saraswati, and Parvati—are not merely consorts but powerful entities who
complete and empower their male counterparts. Throughout history, from the Indus Valley civilization to
contemporary times, women have been pivotal contributors across social and
economic domains. Scholars, warriors, and leaders like Gargi, Rani Lakshmibai,
Ahilyabai Holkar, Rani Naiki Devi, Savitribai Phule, and several more unnamed
women exemplify women's intellectual prowess, courage, and administrative
excellence. Mela: As soon as you enter the
school, you will be greeted by various stalls of local vendors selling jewelry,
clothes, Indian ethnic wear, books for children and adults, plus local
non-profit businesses giving you information about their services. Cultural Program: In
the auditorium, there will be a wonderful variety show going on, showcasing all
the talents that New England has to offer. There are songs and dances by
children and adults, area schools of music and dance presenting their best
items, children from several Bal Vihars performing plays based on the theme of
Nari Shakti. Food: Go a little further, and your
senses will get assaulted with the delicious smells emanating from the
cafeteria, where you can sample savory snacks and delicious delicacies. Kite Flying: Weather permitting,
there will be kite flying for children and adults. Come and learn new skills or
renew your childhood memories by flying kites again. Painting Exhibition: Come
browse in the hallways, where you can see beautiful artwork by children and
adults, in the Painting exhibition. Storytelling and Heritage Trivia: There
will be a Storytelling event, followed by a Heritage Trivia event, which will
precede Hindu Heritage Day, in which children can showcase their talents in
storytelling and their knowledge about Hindu culture and heritage. Felicitation of Participants of Storytelling, Heritage
Trivia, Painting events: The participants of the Storytelling and
Trivia events and also the Painting exhibition will be felicitated on stage on
May 10. Outstanding entries will be
given a special award. Come and cheer on all the children and encourage them to
continue learning about their heritage. All this and more
awaits you at Hindu Heritage Day. For more information, please see the attached
