The Sewa International Boston Chapter celebrated a landmark occasion during its annual Gala Fundraiser on December 7th, marking 20 years of Sewa International’s incorporation in the United States. Themed "Sound of Giving," the gala was attended by over 250 community members and raised $25,000.

The evening featured mesmerizing cultural performances that highlighted the richness of Indian art and music. Vocalists Sankar Gangaikondan, Sharanya Sarkar Verma, Meena Sundaram, and Raghu Saranathan captivated the audience with live renditions of timeless Bollywood classics. The gala also included exquisite dance performances by Lasya School of Dance, led by Sapna Krishnan, and a stunning Kathak presentation by Moumita Banerjee and her Tarana School of Kathak.

Community service was at the heart of the event, with notable awards presented to inspiring leaders and organizations. The Sewa Women Empowerment Award was given to Manju Sheth and her Women Who Win organization. India Society of Worcester’s Humrahee group led by Sharat Amin, Narayan Sharma and Kirti Nagpal were recognized for the Sewa Heart of the Community award. Lastly, the Sewa Rising Star Award was presented to Neeharika Munjal for her leadership in creating opportunities for young professionals with Young Indian Professionals of New England.

“This gala was a testament to Sewa’s mission of selfless service and our 20-year journey of empowering communities globally,” said Kumar Subramanian, Boston Chapter Coordinator. “We are deeply grateful to our performers, donors, and volunteers for making this milestone celebration a resounding success.”

The funds raised will support Sewa International’s projects, ranging from disaster relief and women’s empowerment to grassroots initiatives in Boston, including partnerships with Shrewsbury High School student led Aidworks Foundation as well as New England Leherein.

The Boston Chapter thanks all attendees for their contributions and invites them to continue supporting Sewa International’s vision.
