Diwali Mela 2024

The Diwali Mela was such a buzzing event, filled with laughter and happiness. The morning was filled with excitement as stalls showcased diya crafts, bangles, lipin arts, folk art, and more. The vibrant atmosphere was further enhanced by lively dance performances, with traditional songs that brought energy and joy to the celebration. Children ran around with big smiles, while families looked at the beautiful displays and participated in fun activities. The rhythmic beats of upbeat Indian music filled the hearts of families, creating an upbeat energy. It was a perfect start to a day of culture, creativity, and festive cheer, making it an event to remember forever.

Diwali (Deepavali), the celebration of lights, is a festival that is widely celebrated across India. It symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, and holds special importance in the eyes of many people. During Diwali, a special aspect
is gathering with friends and family to celebrate. Shishu Bharati embraced this spirit with its Diwali Mela, held on November 17th, 2024. On this day, the Shishu Bharati communities from all three locations, Lexington, Walpole, and Nashua gathered at Lexington High School for a memorable celebration.

But before the event could begin, there was a lot of work necessary for making the event a success. The performers had been practicing for many weeks prior, coming early to rehearsals each week to perfect their performance. Additionally, student volunteers and teachers helped set up the event at Lexington High School the day before. Even during the event, student volunteers and teachers helped run the event and made sure things went smoothly, and without them the event could not have happened.

The Mela consisted of two main sections, a performance section and a series of interactive booths. It started with a series of performances from all three locations of Shishu Bharati, taking the audience on a tour through the different regions of India with dance, music, and more. The Mela ended with a one-of-a-kind Unity Parade, celebrating the diversity of India.

After the performances were finished, a series of interactive booths were opened with specific activities like arts and crafts, music and dance, and much much more. In keeping with the tradition of a true Mela, students got a chance to collect cool prizes! Each student received a “passport” to show which events they had visited, and received a prize according to the number of booths traveled.

The Shishu Bharati Diwali Mela was not simply a celebration;

It was a reflection of the essence of Diwali itself. The outstanding performances, engaging booths, and cool prizes, along with the preparation of Shishu Bharati’s fantastic volunteers and teachers made the Diwali Mela a truly unforgettable event. It not only brought the Shishu Bharati community closer but provided an enriching learning experiment and joyful time for all. We can’t wait for the next Diwali celebration!
