SANE celebrates Diwali Party

Ranjani Saigal
11/07/2004

The Sindhi Association of New England threw a grand Diwali Ball at the Burlington Marriot on Friday, November 5, 2004. Over 300 people attended the event. “Sindhis are very cosmopolitan in their outlook.  There are free from the inhibitions of caste and creed. In Sindhi Temples, you will find images of Sri Rama and Sri Krishna placed side by side with those of Siva, Durga and Guru Nanak” proclaimed the Diwali brochure.  The presence of several non Sindhis in the group was a testimony to this open outlook.

The evening opened with a welcome address by the President Baban Motwani. A lovely cultural program followed. The first item was an unusual piece titled “Father Daughter Dance”. Choreographed by Harbal Singh, Rajni Singh and Gulshan Dudani, Harbal Singh (Dad) along with Rhea Dudani, Rhea Singh, Tanya Singh, Isha Jha and Pooja Tekchandani (daughters) presented an adorable number. Sarena Arora, Shaleen Seth, Raju Trivedi, Aaksh Mankodi, Kewal Kamani and Yash Kapadia danced to the Bollywood hit number “Oh My darling, I love you”.  A dance-medley by Reshma Chabria followed. Shrusti Lulla, Rhea Manwani, Kamal Singhani & Gautam Singhani presented an exciting number choreographed by Sumita Manwani  & Geeta Singhani. A graceful presentation by Seema Arora followed. The finale for the evening was a dance medley set to popular Bollywood tunes presented by Mansi Demla, Nitin Somaya and Payal Somaya.

Following a delicious dinner the dance floor was open and the guests who were dressed in gorgeous outfits danced the night away to the exciting music dished out by the DJ.

“This program came together thanks to the hard work put in by our executive committee members Vice President Rajesh Tekchandani, Secretary Premoo Mirchandani, Treasurer Nitin Somaya and Event Coordinator Geeta Singhani and other volunteers who gave their time generously” said Motwani. “We also must thank advertisers for their generous contribution for this event.”

Every attendee received a “Diwali Mithai Dabba” as a gift. From the smiles on the face of the guests it was obvious that the Diwali Ball was a huge success.
