Diwali Dhamaka
On occasion of Diwali, Festival of Lights celebrated by Hindu's, Sikh's, Jains and Buddhists in US and around the world, Miss Kumu Gupta is working on making Diwali a MA State holiday with state Senator's office in 2025 , with a bill filed in January and passed in time for Diwali 2025. Earlier in 2017, Kumu requested Governor Baker and helped write Diwali in MA for a whole month Proclamation.
As for Diwali as a federal holiday, Congresswoman Grace Meng (N.Y.) has a bill filed for 2023-24 but will have to re file next year with a new Congress if it does not pass this year before Congress goes home for the holidays. In working with Congresswoman Meng's office, Kumu has proposed and requested Congresswoman Meng to work with the Indian American Congressional Caucus to get the bill passed and hopes to see it happen for Diwali 2025.
In addition, Kumu also proposed to US Treasury to offer gold and silver coins with Diwali, Diya and Prosperity themes to be made available by the Treasury on occasion of Diwali which are used in Pooja and as gifts. And was told it takes 2 yrs to issue coins once approved, so that would be for Diwali 2026.
