Election Result Reactions

Compiled by Chitra Parayath and Nirmala Garimella

The job of president should be outsourced. Preferably to India.

Dr. Panicker, Tampa, Florida.

I am bitterly, bitterly disappointed. Fear and fundamentalism won over
Women's rights, research into Stem cells,
the Environment and Minority rights. Will bombings, prisoner abuse and
detention without trial, be part of the
next four years? Will the human rights abuses around the world be met with
deafening silence for four more years?
Will the price of Halliburton shares now skyrocket?
A point of hope, to me, is the many people who voted for a better, more just
America. A pity they lost...

Hanekke V. W., MA

I am completely puzzled as to why anyone would want to win this mess away from the Bush administration. The Democrats should be glad they did not win! As Colin Powel put it, "If you break it, you own it". Let the Bush Corporation fix this one. I just wish it weren't on my dollar.

In this era of instant communications, we should expect no less than leaders who communicate directly with the one true God... on both sides of this "war".

This must be what we deserve. Onwards, back to the Inquisition...!!!

P. John, MA

I supported Kerry and I am sorry he lost. I never liked Bush for his policy and even his personality. I dont like his conservative thinking and I shudder to think of what will happen to issues like Woman right's to choose and Stem cell reasearch. Do we have hope here ? I am also concerned about the republican control on the Supreme Court and the judges that will be nominated.

Pratima- Rhode Island

We are now assured of four more years of stability and security. President Bush will reinforce his excellent foreign policy. I am certain that the terrorists are shaking in their boots.

R. Harris, Wisconsin

My reactions are mixed. I feel bad that Kerry did not win but I wonder if he did whether it will be good for India. He has strong opinions on Outsourcing and the Nuclear Non Proliferation treaty. But having Bush in the Seat will not make any difference to the current state of affairs, sadly enough.

Nirupama V., California

The election results are very disappointing ,we wanted Kerry to win so
badly. On the other hand maybe it is a blessing in disguise for the
democrats because with the current situation at the domestic and
foreign affairs front ,the next 4 yrs is going to be tough for anyone.
By 2008 the country will be more than ready for a democrat at the helm
of affairs.

SD, Iowa

To the comment made by P. John, MA: "The Democrats should be glad they did not win! As Colin Powel put it, "If you break it, you own it". Let the Bush Corporation fix this one." Unfortunately, the Bush Corporation won't be fixing "this one," it will likely only make it worse, which is exactly why Kerry should have won. It is true that the Democrats would have had a really hard time keeping/making a good name for themselves over the next four years had they won the election, given the difficulty of the current situation. It's also probably true that more of the country will be ready for a Democratic President next election. BUT, unfortunately, our country and Iraq will be worse off by that time and the Democrats are going to have even more patching up to do. Unfortunately, anything the Bush Corporation tries to fix will likely fall apart. In the meantime, we can make sure we're not brainwashed by Bush and the Republicans any longer: To those of you who do so, Please oh Please STOP WATCHING FOX NEWS!!
If Bush wants to play the morality game, then we should question what he thinks is moral: is it moral to go to war and kill thousands of people? is it moral to take away a woman's right to choose when forcing her to have an unwanted baby will likely only hurt the baby and herself, NOT the radical pro-life-ers who don't have to take care of the baby once its born? Is it moral to be screening people on the basis of their race at airports (which I am sure has happened to every one of us) or even in our homes? I think not. Here's another little pet-peev of mine: why are politicians termed "Compassionate Conservatives" and "Committed Liberals" instead of "Compassionate Liberals" and "Committed Conservatives?" I don't see anything that the Conservatives are compasionate towards except big bussiness...what happened to having compassion for humanity?

Neha. M

Utterly disappointed. Another four years. Four more years of lies and deceit. Argh! if the draft comes, I'm moving to India. its planning on attacking our high school generation. If they wont let me, i can still use the excuse of me being a Hindu and believing in ahimsa. if that doesn't work, I can always say I'm gay. I can't stand the arrogance of Bush. No one can abridge the right to get married to whomever you want or what you wish to do with your body (to the issue of euthanasia and abortion).
