He is the grandson of the late mridangam legend Sri Palghat Raghu and a member of the Lalgudi family on his mother's side. Abhishek started learning the mridangam from his grandfather, Sri Palghat Raghu. At his grandfather's insistence, Abhishek shifted to vocal music and started learning from Sri. P. S. Narayanaswamy. He has toured the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe. In 2014, Abhishek directed the Children's Carnatic choir organized by Bhoomija Trust as a fund-raiser for Drishti Eye Care, Bangalore. Abhishek is an 'A' Grade artiste of All India Radio.
