Indian Americans for Burlington (IAB) hosted its much-anticipated Diwali celebration on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Burlington Commons, from 2 PM to 6 PM. This year’s theme, “Threads of India, brought together India’s traditional weaves and handicrafts to the forefront.
As one of the largest cultural events in Burlington, the IAB Diwali celebration has become a staple for locals eager to immerse themselves in the richness of Indian culture. With colorful performances, a fashion show, shopping opportunities, and mouth-watering cuisine, the event highlighted the spirit of Diwali—India’s Festival of light
A cultural showcase featuring traditional and modern dance forms, and music from India delighted the audience. One of the highlights of the evening was a brilliant Yoga presentation. There was a wonderful fashion show showcasing the different Sarees from different regions of India celebrating the craftsmanship and history that has been passed down through generations.
As is the tradition, IAB honored town officials and recognized a few local organizations. Ranjani Saigal and Manisha Jain were honored for their work with Ekal Vidyalaya, Dr. Manju Sheth and Dr. Deepa Jhaveri for Women Who Win, Dr. Lalit Sudan for VisionAid, Udgith Mankad for HSS and Abhishek Singh and Anand Sharma for FIA. Ranjani and Anil Saigal, who initiated the IAB Diwali festival light the tree light for Diwali.
"Kids Entrepreneurs Segment” was a unique addition were children showcased their innovative ideas and budding businesses. “The Treasury Kitchen,” a local favorite, served a variety of authentic Indian dishes, offering attendees a chance to taste the diverse flavors of India.
President Deepa Agarwal, Secretary Smita Kapadia, Treasurer Atul Bhammar and the entire IAB team should be commended for bringing the spirit to Diwali to Burlington.
