About the show: In 2022, the SAATh Festival was born out of the desire to use performative arts as a platform for immigrants to share their experiences to push beyond stereotypes of South Asian communities. Spearheaded by the Boston-based non-profit theater group “Off-Kendrik”, SAATh is a three-day celebration of stories and performances that address a range of issues in multiple languages, from politics in countries of origin to complexities of ethnicity, gender, and sexuality. It offers insights into the diversity of the South Asian-American diaspora, and provides a rare opportunity for community-building, education, and enrichment for people both outside the community and within.

Highlights:  We celebrate Mathathi theater through three plays over Friday and Saturday.  We delve into the fictional retelling of the famous sufi poet Shah Hussein in the play "Madho"(English).  We celebrate the bicentenniel of the famous Bengali poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt through letters written by women to their significant other- Birangona Kabya (English).  "Court Martial "(Hindi) is an exploration of caste bias in the Indian army.  There are two Bengali plays, "Ekti Asamanyo Ghotona", an adaptation of David Mamet's Oleanna and the famous children's play "Lokkhoner Shaktishel", a farce based on an episode from Ramayana.  Finally we have invited the Asian American Playwright collective (AAPC) to present four short original plays highlighting the Asian American immigrant experience.
