A Hindustani Vocal Concert by Manjusha Patil


Dear Baithak Members and Friends in Music,


Our first Baithak for the Fall season is being presented jointly with MITHAS and scheduled for Saturday, Sept 7th at 6:00 PM at MIT, Wong Auditorium. This is a Hindustani classical vocal concert by Smt Manjusha Patil with Prashant Pandav on tabla, and Abhinay Ravande on Harmonium. Artist Bios

Manjusha Patil


Manjusha Patil has established herself as a leading vocalist of Agra-Gwalior gharana captivating the audiences both in India and abroad. Her voice effortlessly spanning three saptakas mastering both classical and semi-classical music forms such as Thumri, Dadra, Kajari, Hori, Chaiti, Natysangeet, Dasthat, Raagmala leaves a profound impressions on her listeners.


Manjusha received her initial training in music under Pt. Mhaiskar Buva of Sangli, and subsequently, under late Pt. D.V. Kanebuva for 13 years in Gurukul Paddhati. She also learned nuances of Gwalior gharana from Vidushi Shubhadatai Paradkar and then continued learning Kanebuva's legacy from      Pt. Narendra Kanekar who was a senior desciple of Pt. Kanebuva. In Pune, she refined her skills in the Agra and Gwalior gharanas under Pt. Vikas Kashalkar. Currently, she is receiving advanced training under the able guidance of the illustrious vocalist of today Padmashree Pt. Ulhas Kashalakar.


Manjusha is a top-grade artist of All India Radio (AIR), the highest rating awarded to an artist by the AIR. She has also received several prestigious awards such as Ustaad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar,   Pt. Kumar Gandharva Rashtriya Puraskar, Gaan Saraswati Puraskar, Ustaad Faiyaz Khan Puraskar to mention a few.


Coming from a humble background in Sangli, Maharashtra, Manjusha, in her musical journey, has won her audiences’ hearts through her mellifluous, open-throated, melodious and expressive voice. Her concerts are marked with perfection of sur, purity in the exposition of raga, complex taan patterns rendered with speed and accuracy, and command on rhythmic aspects of her Gayaki. Manjusha also excels in Semi-classical Musical forms such as Thumari, Dadara, Bhajan, Abhang and Natya-Sangeet etc., which constitute her delightful performances.


Manjusha has performed at various music festivals all over India and abroad: Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav - Pune, Tansen Samaroha - Gwalior, All Bengal Music Festival - Kolkata, Malhar Festival, Nehru Centre - Mumbai, Kala Akadami - Goa, Sur Mandal - Hyderabad, Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan - Chandigadh, Sangeet Ashram, Dover Lane - Kolkata, Kalakshetra - Chennai, UAE, Muscat, U.S.A. BMM Convention at Chicago, USA.

 

Prashant Pandav


Prashant Pandav was born into a family steeped in Indian classical music. Having learned the basics of music from his father Shri Prabhakar Pandav, he has been trained, since the age of 9, in Tabla as well as vocal music. He holds the SANGEET VISHARAD degree both in both the disciplines.


Prashant received his initial training in tabla from Pt. Pandurang Mukhade and is currently receiving advanced training from the well-known famous Tabla Maestro Pt. Yogesh Samsi. Prashant provides clear, emphatic, forceful and melodious tabla accompaniment with fitting tonal quality. He has accompanied for classical vocal as well as semi-classical and light music concerts.


Prashant has provided He has accompanied tabla for many renowned artists like Vidushi.Devaki Pandit, tabla accompaniment to several well-known classical vocalists of today, such as Vidushi Koushiki Chakraborty, Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar, Vidushi Kalapini Komkali, Vidushi Manjusha Patil to name a few. He has performed some of the most prestigious music festivals of India such as Sawai GandharvMahotsav of Pune, Hariwallabh Mahotsav of Jaladhar, Smt. Anjanibai Malpekar Smruti Samaroh of Goa.


 

Abhinay Ravande


Abhinay Ravande comes from a musical family in Nanded, Maharashtra with a background in kirtan tradition. He received his initial training in Harmonium as well as vocal music from his father Shri Laxmikant Ravande. For the last 10 years he has been training with the well-known harmonium player under the tutelage of Pandit Pramod Marathe at Gandharva Mahavidyalay completing his Sangeet Visharad and Graduation in Harmonium. Abhinay is a recipient of many prestigious awards and scholarships, such as the Blue Star Award from NCPA, D G Marathe Yuva Vadak Puraskar, Special Puraskar from Akashwani (All India Radio) Delhi in Harmonium solo category, ICMA scholarship America, and V D Paluskar Scholarship. Abhinay has provided harmonium accompaniment to some of the high profile classical vocalists such as the Late Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, Vidushi Manjusha Patil and Pandit Bhuvanesh Komkali to name a few.
