The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) is a Founder Member of Asian American Unity Coalition (AAUC) which takes up and campaign on broad issues of Asian Americans. AAUC is organizing 2024 Unity Summit to be held at The US Capitol, Washington DC on September 19th to 20th, 2024. The following broad topics/issues will be discussed at the Summit. 

• Immigration, Racial Discrimination & injustices 

• Civil Rights & Election Essentials

We invite you to this Summit. You will have an opportunity to meet Congressional Representatives and Senators at this program, in addition to calling on to the offices of your own elected officials. We, from GOPIO, had suggested to take up the legislative issue of legal immigration backlog (Green Card) which has put 1.2 million Indian applicants in the waiting list, which at the current level may take as many as 100 years to get a visa number until and unless the immigration rules are changed to remove the discriminatory rules towards Indian applicants and also the Chinese and Filipino applicants. There are two bipartisan bills in the Congress (HR-6543 and S-3269) which could reduce this long waiting period. 

GOPIO is a Co-host of this Summit. As a co-host, GOPIO will have a dozen passes to attend a White House Briefing on Thursday, Sept. 19th morning at 10 or 11 am (the timing is still to be finalized) where we will have an interactive session on Asian American issues. In the afternoon, we will have a meeting with Dept. of Justice and FBI, again interacting with them on the Asian American issues. In the evening, there is Welcome Dinner at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Crystal City, Virginia. The cost is only $100.
