Announcing the launch of Desi Daughters - an online platform for daughters (and sons!) who are navigating midlife with aging elders.
Many of our US-based families with Desi elders have culturally-similar caregiving needs and challenges, but there is no central resource available to reference and empower our next generation of family caregivers. This platform fills that void.
Desi Daughters provides helpful information and resources related to elder care for the South Asian community in a few different ways.
RESOURCE WEBSITE
The website contains a growing compilation of elder care resources such as medical insurance for parents visiting from India, culturally-competent elder caregivers, reliable care resources in the US and India, and Hindu spiritual care counseling.
EXTENSIVE COMMUNITY
The 800+ member community is an active online group where members share experiences with, learn from, and provide support to each other as we each navigate our individual caregiving journeys. This community serves as a large extended family to get recommendations and learn about experiences with elder care situations and services.
INFORMATION SESSIONS
The information session series covers relevant elder care topics, such as financial and insurance offerings, proactive care planning, appropriate nutrition, and hiring at home help.
LOCAL CHAPTERS
The community has introduced local chapters, starting with the Boston metro area and the NY/NJ metro area. These subgroups help to identify localized support, such as activities, companionship, rides, meals, etc. for our elders.
Do you have an aging elder? Don't miss out on having useful resources and services at your fingertips!
