Jaya Asthana 05/02/2024 Hindu
Heritage Day 2024 Hindu Heritage Day was started in 1997 as a way to
celebrate our great Hindu Culture and Heritage. Since then, it has grown to
include something for everyone, young, old and young at heart. This year,
Hindu Heritage Day will be celebrated on May 4, starting at 3 PM, in
Marlborough Middle School, Marlborough, MA. Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram: This
year’s theme, in keeping with the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya,
Bharat, is Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram. Shri Ram epitomizes excellence in all
aspects of humanity. He sets the reference in all areas for everyone to strive
to reach, whether it is in relationships with family, leadership, unwavering
commitment, respect for all including the mighty, the downtrodden and even
one’s adversaries, humility, and many other areas. Mela: As soon as you
enter the school, you will be greeted by various stalls of local vendors
selling jewelry, clothes, Indian ethnic wear, books for children and adults,
plus local non-profit businesses giving you information about their services. Cultural Program: In
the auditorium, there will be a wonderful variety show going on, showcasing all
the talents that New England has to offer. There are songs and dances by
children and adults, area schools of music and dance presenting their best
items, children from several Bal Vihars performing plays based on the Ramayan. Ram Leela:
In addition, come and enjoy a wonderful, professional-level Ram Leela, a dance
drama based on the Ramayan. This is performed by six area dance schools, in
many different dance styles. It is a not-to-be-missed performance, one that
will resonate with you long after you leave the halls of Hindu Heritage Day. Food: Go a little
further, and your senses will get assaulted with the delicious smells emanating
from the cafeteria, where you can sample savory snacks and delicious
delicacies. Painting Exhibition:
Come browse in the hallways, where you can see beautiful art by children and
adults, in the Painting exhibition. Kite Flying: Weather
permitting, there will be kite flying for children and adults. Come and learn
new skills or renew your childhood memories by flying kites again. Storytelling, Ramayan Trivia, Painting:
Felicitation of Participants: This year, several
events preceded HHD. There was a Storytelling event and a Ramayan Trivia event,
held on April 13 at Sri Lakshmi Temple. The participants of these events and
also the Painting exhibition will be felicitated on stage. Outstanding entries will be given a special
award. Come and cheer on all the children and encourage them to continue
learning about their heritage. All this and more
awaits you at Hindu Heritage Day. For more information, please see the attached
