If you like dance, the South Asian Showdown was the place to be on Saturday, April 6^th, 2024! The dancing was fantastic and the audience was packed!

The concept of Showdown is to showcase the best Fusion and Hindi-Film teams on one stage.  Bollywood represents the Mumbai movie industry and the story lines that come with it.  South Asian fusion brings all styles of dance together on one stage to showcase the talents of South Asian dancers.  Bring these dance forms together in this competition and you saw how explosive and entertaining South Asian dance can truly be!

South Asian Showdown, SAS for short, had teams from all over North America competing to be crowned the Showdown Champion.  Teams from Florida, Washington DC, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts all showcased their extreme talent to the Boston audience.  However, only 3 teams could win:

1st Place: Desi Dhamaka
2nd Place: Broad Street Baadshahz
3rd Place: BU Jalwa 

We also had these ancillary prizes as well:

Best Dancer: Wolf from Desi Dhamaka
Best Mix: Philly Maza
Best Theme: GU Guzaarish
People’s Choice: Desi Dhamaka

Here is a quick description about each winning team:

Desi Dhamaka (1st Place):

an independent Bollywood-fusion team from Tampa, FL. The team was founded in 2012. With a fusion of traditional and contemporary dance styles, the team brings the magic of Bollywood-fusion to life on stage. Comprising talented choreographers and passionate dancers, Desi Dhamaka's performances are a visual feast, blending intricate footwork, expressive storytelling, and dazzling costumes. Their dynamic routines capture the spirit of celebration, spreading joy and infectious enthusiasm wherever they perform. Desi Dhamaka isn't just a dance team; it's a vivacious celebration of Indian dance and culture. 

Broad Street Baadshahz (2nd Place):

an all male premier Bollywood dance team entering their 16th year. Bsb preforms various styles such as bhangra, hip hop, contemporary, tolly, bolly, and many more. BSB has been a top tier team for years, winning numerous competitions as well as earning a spot at Legends. BSB is also the most popular team coming from the city of brotherly love. We strive to entertain our audience each and every time we perform through our power, passion, and dedication to dance.

BU Jalwa (3rd Place):

hailing from the city of champions, is New England's premier bollywood fusion dance team and encompasses various dance styles such as Bollywood, Bhangra, classical, and hip-hop. Having been an established team in the fusion circuit since 2004, Jalwa strives to live up to its legacy by displaying the creativity, energy, and passion of Boston’s Desi-American community for the world to see. It’s Jalwa Time.

We had great food served by Shan-a-Punjab restaurant and everybody ate that up as well!
