The BIGGEST and GRANDEST DURGA IDOLS in Boston & New England have ARRIVED at Prabasi from the heart of Kumartuli in Kolkata. Maa Durga has finally arrived in all her divine glory, grandeur and dazzling beauty with her children Karthik, Ganesh, Lakshmi, and Saraswati, across the seas, to bless her devotees. Kumartuli, a clay modeler’s community in North Kolkata, houses generations of artisans who merge history, art, and heritage together with visual brilliance in their divine idol sculptures and exquisite clay modeling craftsmanship. Meticulously hand crafted by famed Kumartuli artist Prasanta Pal, our invocation of the Mother Goddess during Durga Puja on Oct 20, 21 and 22 will be accompanied by dedicated joyous festivities. As the oldest Bengali organization in New England, Prabasi is renowned for its Durga Puja grandeur and cultural excellence. This year we will go even further. We are bringing a new Theme Puja revolution for the first time in the US, to honor the arrival of our grand new divine Durga Idols.

Durga Puja has been recognized as the CULTURAL HERITAGE FOR HUMANITY by UNESCO. We will honor the auspicious homecoming of our grand new Durga idols with the theme – PRAKRITI. In Devi Mahatmaya, the Hindu text on the Mother Goddess, Maa Durga is the world, the earth and the unique force that controls the universe. She is the supreme cosmic force and thus, she is Prakriti, embodying feminine strength and self-transformative energy.

We will see gifted local artists and engineers from the Prabasi community, roll up their sleeves to construct and decorate an amazing Pandal, a Puja Pavilion that represents Devi Durga’s temporary abode during the Puja. At Prabasi this year, an elaborate design process will transform this ordinary space into an extraordinary architectural labyrinth complete with colors, shapes, textures, and indigenous artistic brilliance. Our pandal will stand as a prototype of a live art installation with creative use of platforms, patterns, materials, and designs epitomizing the confluence of divinity, culture, and art.
