Jaiphal/Nutmeg is an indigenous herb originating in the Western Ghats of India. It is a versatile and flavorful spice that has been used around the world, including both Asian and western culinary especially in a variety of sweet and savory dishes as well as drinks like mulled wine and chai tea and has a long history of use in traditional medicinal applications mainly Ayurvedic Siddha system of medicine for centuries. This aromatic spice comes from a seed of the Jaiphal tree, has a warm, sweet, and slightly nutty flavor. It is commonly added to desserts, including pies, cakes, cookies, breads, fruit salads, and custards and sprinkled onto starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and pumpkin to create a deep, interesting flavor. It is also added to warm or cold beverages, including apple cider, hot chocolate, chai tea, turmeric lattes, and smoothies. It can be found in whole-seed form but is most often sold as a ground spice. You can use it alone or pair it with other spices, such as cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves.
