O’ dear brother of mine

Waiting with my handmade Rakhi

To honor the bond of love and

Never ever forget your sister and

Uphold always the sacred relation

And fulfil your promise of protection

This day is fiesta of happiness

As holy as the water of Ganga

When the Monsoon season is dancing

And Shraavana Masa is swaying

I apply auspicious vermillion

On my brother’s bright forehead

I tie on your strong wrist

The silk string of my love

It is as delicate as my breath

But does not break for a lifetime

You know it well my brother

And all the world knows it too

The showers of Shravan Masa

Bring their vibrant colors and

New vigor and energy everywhere

Sister from a far off place

Reaches you with much love

Lights up a lamp of remembrance

He is like Lord Krishna in beauty

He is like Yashoda in loving me

He is like Shakti in bravery

He is the guard of my honor

When I am alone in this world

He is the whole world of love for me

Even when destiny separates us apart

Never get me detached from your mind

Remember your sister with much love

On this auspicious day of Shravan

I wish you all the good luck in the world

And shower on you my love and affection
