Simple Remedies For Hyperpigmentation, Dark Spot, Melasma

Hyperpigmentation is also called liver spot, dark spot, and age spots. The dark spot on the skin is just a concentrated melanin in a particular part of the skin especially on your face and hands. Pigmentation is not a disease. It is just a symptom that your body/skin is lacking antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Pigmentation happens due to damage to your skin due to lack of antioxidants and your skin can heal by itself. Antioxidants help us not only look younger but also help us to age slower.

Diet and life style changes are necessary. Eat your dinner before 6:30pm and do your regular exercises for your healthy and glowing skin.

Why Hyperpigmentation happens? What is the cause?

Ayurveda, the Holistic Medical Science says that this happens due to pitta problem that is fire component issue. That is why Pitta diet is recommend for your good for skin heath – eating timely and more fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C, drinking of minimum 3 liters of water, no intermittent fasting and regular exercises. In Ayurveda, pigmentation is treated by cleansing intestine and improving your gut health. If you do not have a good gut that means you are going to have skin problems.


What are home remedies?

The following are the very simple remedies

Use coconut oil on your face and do massage on that area where you have pigmentation.

Use 2 tbsp. barley or wheat flower with ¼ tsp turmeric or Amba Haldi or Kasturi Haldi (these do not coloration like kitchen Haldi). Add water to make a paste. Put it on your face and do massage of your face including pigmented area.

Perform steaming of your face for 1 to 2 minutes. One to 2 times in a week will be sufficient. It is like detoxing your skin. Use neem or mint leaves in your steam water if they are available. If not just use water for steaming your face.

Soak 1 and ½ tbsp. rice in a few spoons of milk overnight. Blend the soaked rice in a blender and take the extract of it by using a strainer. Prepare your green tea. Take one tbsp. Mulethi or Liquorice powder add the rice extract and some green tea. Make paste, apply it to your face, and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off. Then apply vitamin C serum to your face.

According to Ayurveda, Liquorice is the best herb to treat hyperpigmentation. It can be used as a face mask or drink it by adding 1 tsp liquorice powder in a glass of water. Liquorice tea is also available in the market. It is used for balancing skin complexion and glow to the skin. It can be used for 40 to 45 days for cleaning intestines.

Aloe Vera gel can be used as a facemask. Aloe Vera juice is also a good option. Add two drops of vegetable glycerin. Mix it well and apply it to your face in the night and wash your face in the morning

Green Tea also can help reducing hyperpigmentation since it is rich in antioxidants

Cinnamon is good in balancing insulin that helps in decreasing hyperpigmentation

Apply vitamin C serum and consume vitamin rich fruits and vegetables to see the results.

Vitamin C toner: Take the peel of oranges put them in a glass of water and boil it for 2 to 3 minutes. Then, strain the water and store it in a spraying bottle. It will be effect for 7 days if refrigerated; you freeze it in a cube form for longer use. However, fresh is always better.

 

Vitamin C serum: Use orange peel powder that is available in the market. Take 1 tsp orange peel powder and add 1tbsp. Aloe Vera gel and 2 to 4 tsp rose water and ¼ tsp Vitamin E or use 5 capsules. Mix all these ingredients to a serum consistency by adding more rose water.

 

* We are adding vitamin E to vitamin C because the oxidation of vitamin C happens very fast. To reduce this oxidation we have to add vitamin E. The serum will stay effective for longer period.

* When you apply either toner or serum in the daytime, you need to protect your skin from ultraviolet (UV) exposure by applying good sunscreen.  Otherwise, the exposure might cause sunspots.  So, apply either one at night to your face and neck area. Do massaging for 5 to 6 minutes, leave it there at night, and wash it off in the morning.

Good sleep is going to surely help you in removing hyperpigmentation. Good sleep comes from good melatonin that generally comes from the sun. Expose yourself to a mild sun light.

Soak separately little bit of saffron and 15 to 20 almond in enough water at night. Peel the skin of almonds. Blend the almonds with very little water and extract the almond milk with help of cloth. Mix it with saffron soaked water. Add 4 tbsp. Aloe Vera gel and one E vitamin capsule. Also, add 7 to 8 drops of almond or any oil that suits you. Mix it well with an eggbeater and your cream is ready. You can apply it 3 to 4 times every day. You can store it in a refrigerator.


What are the other causes and simple remedies to avoid hyperpigmentation?

--Stop milk in any form and avoid salt intake

--Do not expose yourself to hot sun without using moisturizing cream and apply sunscreen on the top of it

--Most of the time, hyperpigmentation happens after menopause due to hormonal imbalance.

* Massage dark spot on the face or hands with a wooden roller to build collagen of skin. Skin wont loose its elasticity and thereby pigmentation is also reduced.

* Use a piece of tomato and sprinkle some sugar and coffee powder on it and scrub the pigmented area for 1 to 2 minutes and apply moisturizing cream or lotion after rinsing it. This will help in skin tightening and reducing pigmentation.

 

Are there any Homeopathic remedies for removing Hyperpigmentation?

The following Homeopathic medicines are recommended for the best results

-Sepia for pigmentation after menopause

--Pulsatilla Nigricans for treating pigmentation with menstrual irregularities

--Thuja Occidentalis treats both pigmentation and the flakes on the skin

 --Cadmium Sulphuratum is prescribed for treating pigmentation due to wind exposure

--Sulphur can be used for effective treatment of pigmentation on dry skin

--Psorinum can be used to treat pigmentation on oily skin.

--Berberis Aquifolium is effective for treating pigmentation, scars and any skin eruptions.


What things reduce antioxidants from our body?

·      High level of estrogen if a female is taking conceptive pill

·      If a person is eating lots of sugar

·      If a person is going out in a hot sun and taking lots of sunbath might damage the skin by reducing the level of antioxidants, and cause hyperpigmentation.

·      Pregnancy can causes hyperpigmentation because estrogens are higher in the body during pregnancy

·      Stress can also be a cause of hyperpigmentation due to removal of antioxidants from the body
