Ranjani Saigal
05/10/2023

In its mission of helping the survivors of domestic abuse, Saheli takes great pleasure in introducing Saheli’s new Director of Development, Priyadersini Murali, who joined Saheli on May 1st, 2023. As we say in Saheli, once a Saheli is always a Saheli. Priya is not new to Saheli, we are delighted that she decided to join us again to leverage her skills, experience, and ideas into this new role.

In her previous role at Saheli, Priya managed the development and communications at Saheli for two years. She helped Saheli receive many foundation grants that enabled Saheli to grow its mental health and youth program. She was instrumental in helping Saheli receive a 3-year federal grant which supported the growth of Saheli’s Legal Advocacy Program. She was also involved in the planning and implementation of Saheli’s 2019 Nirbhaya Gala. Priya also has experience in advertising and public relations. In India, she worked and interned at many Advertising and PR agencies and handled clients like 3M India, Nanjappa Hospitals, and more.

Along with a master’s degree in communications from Northeastern University, Priya brings over five years of non-profit experience in development, communications, and fundraising. Having been the Director of Donor Relations at Rian Immigrant Center in her previous role, she helped raise $1m in fundraising revenue for the organization. She has skillfully managed fundraising events, annual campaigns, and donor relations.

Our beloved 26-year-old non-profit has gained confidence of our community and our much-valued donors. We are looking forward to seeing Priya grow with Saheli & bring new vision to our expanding staff and carry forward Saheli’s success story! She will be aided in her mission by, Renu Tiwarie, Co-Executive Director

Renu Tiwarie has been a champion for victims of domestic violence for 15 years and currently serves as the Co-Executive Director of Saheli. For more than a decade, Renu has provided domestic violence counseling to over 1,500 individuals and enabled life-saving assistance to those in dire, life-threatening situations.

Renu Tewarie strongly believes that Saheli plays a unique and crucial role in supporting victims of domestic violence from South Asian and Middle Eastern communities who face unique challenges, including cultural stigma, racism, and prejudice making it difficult to come forward and seek help.

Renu's work extends beyond Saheli, as an instructor with Bay State Community Services' Intimate Partner Abuse Education Program, where she counsels domestic violence offenders referred by the courts, prisons, or by the Department of Children and Families.

Divya Chaturvedi, the current Co-Executive director for Saheli will step down and move to seek new opportunities.  The Saheli team thanked Divya for her enormous contribution to Saheli and wished her well in her new role.  Here are some comment from the team.

Neelam Wali,  President, Saheli Board

My association with Divya has been long but I really started working with Divya after I was appointed as the Board president in 2022.

Divya came to Saheli when we needed a Co Ed to manage day to day operations of Saheli. As a volunteer organization for many years under the leadership of Gouri Banerjee and Usha Vakil, both had full time jobs at that time, things needed to be organized and communicated as we were getting funds from state of MA to run Saheli as a nonprofit organization. Divya took the challenge and brought financial structure to the organization. Today we are a well recognized DV organization in state of MASS. and in USA. I will miss her as a person who understood the role of her job and made sure Saheli is financially stable and is managed well, going forward. We will miss her but as we all know, moving forward is the only way to grow in life. I wish her Success!

Gouri Banerjee, Ph.D. Co-Founder of Saheli

Divya Chaturvedi is leaving us to pursue new opportunities…we shall miss her very much.

Divya’s education in public administration and her experience with international non-profit organizations have enabled her to support Saheli’s mission and enlarge the vision of Saheli as a premier Asian organization serving Asian women. Divya’s efforts have supported many activities designed to fulfill our mission to provide services to "benefit abused women and improve their lives”.
We thank Divya for her admirable work and wish her the very best for the future.

Usha Vakil, Co-Founder of Saheli

Divya is an advocate of equality and social justice and passionate about Saheli's cause. She expanded the programs to meet legal, economic and the housing needs of the survivors. She has been a catalyst in educating the youth about Intimate Partner Violence and collaborated with several colleges. She was a strong public ambassador of Saheli and will be missed by all of us.

Rita Shah, Founder of  FISCO

Divya will be truly missed at Saheli for her dedication and hard work. My sincere ‘Thank you’ to her for being a friend to our survivors and their needs. Her kindness, and support for our clients will be remembered. Her contributions and expertise have been invaluable to the team Saheli.
Best wishes for her next adventure!
