The in-person Learnquest Music Festival held from April 7-9 at the Regis College proved to be a magical musical event presenting a wide variety of instruments and vocal concerts in both the Carnatic and Hindustani style.
In the Carnatic style, the vocal presentations from younger stalwarts like Amrutha Venkatesh and Sandeep Narayanan to the evergreen senior artists like Sudha Raghunathan and Malladi brothers kept the audience enthralled. The veteran Mridangam Vidwan Trichy Sankaran was honored at the event. On the Hindustani side we had several brilliant musicians including Aarti Ankalikar, Nayan Ghosh, Tejendara Majumdar and others. Several US based musicians including Nitin Mitta, Kamaal Kiran, Saraswathi Ragunathan, Lyon Leifer and others.
This is the one unique festival where Carnatic and Hindustani styles are intertwined. Several Jugalbandhis with musical instruments from both styles were delightful. A Shenoy Flute Jugalbandhi and a Veena Bansuri Jugalbandi were great examples of two styles seamlessly blending to create a beautiful effect.
Local students put together a beautiful presentation under the direction of Vaishanvi Kondapalli and Uma Shankar. Kalakruthi had an art exhibition by local artists.
It was delightful to return to in-person concerts. Meeting the artists and meeting fellow rasikas was a delightful experience and we eagerly look forward to the event next year.
