On April 15, 2023, two acclaimed dancers, Roja Kannan & Priya Murle, will enthrall New England audiences with a thematic presentation of Bharatanatyam. Every year during the month of Chitharai, the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai celebrates with several ceremonies, singing, and dancing. Streets lineup with devotees witnessing the festivity and children waiting for sweets and pieces of coconut. From the hoisting of the flag to the concluding wedding of Meenakshi to Sundareshwar, priests are continuously chanting, making the experience both visceral and spiritual. “Madurai Chitharai Thiruvizah” will bring back all your senses to that same experience. All with fantastic music and wonderful dancing.

Roja Kannnan is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and Teacher. She is a student under Guru Adayar K. Lakshman and Padma Bhushan Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan. Her choreography is rich with nuances and exploration if the senses.

Priya Murle is a senior disciple of Padmashri Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy, Priya has a multi-dimensional approach to Dance. A Performer, a Choreographer and a Teacher, she has also a keen interest in Music, Nattuvangam and Sanskrit.
