The annual South Asian Showdown, which is a Bollywood Fusion Dance Competition was held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Strand Theatre in Boston, MA. Eleven teams from around the country competed for the top spot. The first place received a cash prize of $2000, the second $1000 and the third was $500.
All dances had a theme and a story. A video presentation and props were an important part of the dance productions. A medley of Hip-Hop, Bharatanatyam, Bhangara and Garba moves were incorporated into the productions.
Teams ASU Andaaz from Arizona, BU Chankaar from Massachusetts. Chicago Adaa from Illinois, DFD Academy from Massachusetts, Houston Jannat from Texas, Macaulay Deewane from New York, Mason Ke Rang from Virginia, MIT Mirchi from Massachusetts, Punjabbawockeez from Texas, Purdue Kahani from Indiana and NU Rangila from Massachusetts, Umass Jazba from Massachusetts presented a variety of interesting productions,
DFD Academy won the first prize with the lead dancers winning the best lead prize as well. The second place went to Chicago Adda and the third place to NU Rangila.
Manisi Mehra from Los Angeles served as the MCEE for the event. BU Jalwa and Boston Bhangara Juniors had an exhibition presentation. A lot of hard work went into all the presentations. It was a fun event to watch. Kudos to Rohit Bambi for putting together this showcase year after year.
