We have scheduled our second concert of the season for Sun Nov 13th. This will be a double header concert. The first performance will be a sitar-saxaphone jugalbandi with Anjan Saha (sitar) and Phil Scarff (saxaphone) with Pt Arup Chattopadhyay on tabla. Artist Bios:Anjan SahaSelected for the artist rosters of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, SpicMacay and Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Anjan Saha’s music reflects the highest standard of Indian classical music today. He is a graded artist of Prasar Bharati. Anjan has performed extensively in India, US, Europe, and Qatar, and has presented numerous workshops as well. He is also a composer, and mesmerizes audiences with his unique works. Presently, Mr. Saha is music faculty at Rabindra Bharati University. He has been studying with Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, the doyen of Senia Maihar Gharana, since 2020. He also studied extensively with Pandit Debiprosad Chatterjee and Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar. Anjan received the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in 1992 & 1998. Pt. Arup ChattopadhyayAs a top-notch accompanist and a formidable soloist, Pt. Arup Chattopadhyay is one of today’s most outstanding tabla artists. Arup's performances are admired for their exceptional tonal quality, clarity and deep compositional repertoire, all presented with an innate sense of rhythm and melody. Arup has accompanied many of leading musicians of India including Rais Khan, Aashish Khan, Shahid Parvez, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Nayan Ghosh, Ajay Chakrabarty, Lakshmi Shankar, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Rashid Khan, and V.G. Jog. Arup has performed with the legendary Ravi Shankar in tours throughout North America, Europe, and India, including performances in Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center in US; and Barbican Hall in London. He was awarded the prestigious Top-Grade by All India Radio and Television. Arup has been a visiting lecturer at University of California, San Diego, and professor of Tabla at Baratiya Vidya Bhavan in London. Arup is a premier disciple of renowned tabla maestro Pt. Shankar Ghosh.Phil ScarfPhil is pioneering performance of North Indian classical music on soprano saxophone, exquisitely capturing the subtlety and depth of this music on this Western instrument. Performances include India's prestigious Tansen Samaroh (Gwalior); Nehru Center, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and Dadar-Matunga Cultural Centre (Mumbai); Saptak School of Music (Ahmedabad); Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture (Kolkata); ICCR Theater and India Habitat Centre (Delhi); and JKK (Jaipur); and Pt Chatur Lal Festival (virtual). He played… with great finesse and mesmerized the audience.” - Deccan Herald, Bengaluru Pranav Ghatraju Pranav Ghatraju began his training in Tabla at the Learnquest Academy of Music under Dr. Nishikant Sonwalker when he was 5 years old. Currently, he is under the tutelage of Ustad Shabbir Nisar son of Tabla Nawaaz Ustad Shaik Dawood Khan of Hyderabad, India. Pranav has been actively accompanying artists and giving solo performances across both the USA and India since a young age. His talents have been well appreciated by many of today's greatest maestros. Pranav was awarded a scholarship by the New England Conservatory in 2007 to attend the World Rhythm boot camp. In 2010, Pranav was the youngest recipient of the 20 Under 20 award by the INDIA New England magazine for academic, extra-curricular, and community-related activities. Pranav won the mega finals for the under-15 category at Crescendo 2011, a North Indian classical music competition conducted by Swarganga in Atlanta, GA. Kaavya Valiveti Kaavya Valiveti is a disciple of harmonium maestro Pt. Dr. Ravindra Katoti of Bengaluru, and has given solo performances and accompanied several classical vocalists, tabla artists, and kathak dancers, both local and visiting from India.
