Anu Malik’s musical score in Anurag Basu’s Murder is the most pleasant surprise so far this year.
Kaho Na Kaho, sung by Pakistani singer Amir Jamal is easily the best, his voice suits the Arabic lyrics perfectly and is enjoying repeated rotations on my player.
Another outstanding song is Kunal Ganjawala’s Bheegey Hont tere pyaasa dil mera, a slow seductive ballad with some provocative lines. The song features Mallika Sherawat and Emraan Hashmi in the film.
Alisha Chinai’s Dil Ko Hazaar, Bar has a distinct 60’s feel to it, it is the kind of song Helen would’ve shaken a shapely leg for. The lyrics are by Rahat Indori and Chinai is at her best singing this number.
Anuradha’s Paudwal’s rendering of Zindagi is tarah se lagne lagi, rang ud jaaye jo deewaaron se, Ab chupaane ko apna kuch na raha, zakhm dikhne lagi daraaron se, is ok, Sonu’s is better though a tad too weepy for this reviewer.
Jamal’s Jana Jane Jana, is the only forgettable item in the collection and we forgive Anu that minor slip.
Final verdict? A winner all the way!
