Anoop Kumar 07/29/2004 IIT Kharagpur (KGP) alumni had annual picnic at Hopkinton State Park on Saturday, July 17, 2004. More than 70 alumni and their family members gathered to meet old friends, enjoy good food, play games and of course chat in the lovely surroundings and beautiful weather. Alumni present at the picnic also formalized the IIT Kharagpur alumni network in New England into an Alumni Chapter. The picnic began with alumni arriving in the woods of beautiful surrounding of Hopkinton State Park and enjoying appetizing bhel puri. The snack energized people to play field games like soccer, volleyball and cricket. Everybody including kids who played enjoyed the sports. Some people preferred to stay away from the field and talk to their old friends about their experiences at Kharagpur. The lake and the beached attracted attention of few. After the high activity and sports everybody enjoyed the delicious lunch and guava lassi. Second round of fun started with the game of “bingo”. Few lucky ones won prizes but everyone joined the spirit of the game. Prize was also awarded to person with minimum draws on their card. A prize for unlucky person kept the excitement throughout the game. The picnic concluded with kulfi and tea. An important achievement of the picnic was formalization of IIT KGP alumni in New England into an Alumni Chapter. IIT KGP alumni have been meeting and organizing events for long time. Mr. Puran Dang, founder of IIT-SINE (http://www.iitsine.org) and many other organizations, felt the need of chapter to foster greater interaction among IIT KGP alumni in New England. "Our New IIT Kharagpur Chapter will generate a spark of energy for our future activities", said Mr. Dang. Following members were chosen to form the first executive body. Himanshu Sinha , VP- KGP, IITSINE and a group of volunteers made this event possible. “This year’s picnic was quite a success – thanks to the hard work put in by all of us," said Himanshu Sinha.
