Press Release 05/19/2022 Shivananda Lahari – A Thematic Carnatic Vocal Concert Chinmaya Mission Boston is proud to host an evening of music and spiritualism! The progam “Shivananda Lahari†starts off with Rama Abhisheka followed by the Carnatic vocal concert “Shiva and Consciousness†by Dr. Shriya Srinivasan, a Carnatic vocalist trained under guru Sri Madurai R. Sundar (Detroit, MI). Complimentary Prasad will be served towards the end of the program. The program is scheduled for Saturday, June 4 starting at 6 PM. Admission is free. All are welcome to attend. Venue is Sri Chinmaya Maruti Temple, 1 Union St. Andover MA. A rising artist on both the North American and Indian classical arts scene, Dr. Shriya Srinivasan is a Carnatic vocalist and Bharathanatyam dancer. Shriya trained under guru Sri Madurai R. Sundar and has been mentored by Smt. Seetha Rajan, Sri Kolkata K. Vijayaraghavan and Sri R.K. Shriramkumar. Having won various awards, Shriya has presented concerts in various cities in the US and in the Chennai Music Season. Shriya is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard's Society of Fellows working on neural interfaces for gastrointestinal neuromodulations at the MIT Langer Lab. She was recently awarded the Lemelson prize and recognized as a 35 under 35 innovator by the MIT Technology Review for her inventions related to neuroprosthetics. Mridangam L. Subramanian is a disciple of Vid. Shri K. S. Kalidas, who was a disciple of the mridangam and kanjira Palani Shri Subramanya Pillai. He is a graded artist of the All-India Radio and has performed extensively throughout India and the USA. Violin Pranav Swaroop has been under the tutelage of Vid. M E Nataraj initially and presently under Vid. Lalgudi GJR Krishnan. Kanjira Shivaraj Natraj is a Mridangist, Carnatic vocalist and Khanjira artist from Bangalore, India currently studying at Berklee College of Music. He is a student of Mridanga Kalashiromani Bangalore Vid. A.V. Anand. He had his initial training under Vid. P.K. Ram Mohan. He has been playing the Mridangam since the age of 5. He also fuses Konnakol with beatboxing for which he represented India at the World Vocal Conference La Voce Artistica in Italy, 2017. For more details, email us chinmayaboston@gmail.com.
