Lalita Gandbhir's new book, Tales Across time: My family’s life in India (1846 to 1990) has just been published.

She wrote it because her children and grandchildren asked her many questions about their grandparents and great-grandparents, and their life in India. 

The book covers life in India’s villages, with its preindustrial agrarian lifestyle, customs of arranged and child marriages, the caste system, customs surrounding childbirth, what life was like for women, our family’s retreat into the jungle during epidemics of plague, the 1918 influenza pandemic, and other illnesses like tuberculosis and polio.

The book is based on information she has collected over the last 20 years from family, her childhood memories, and stories she heard from relatives. She wrote about each family member, and her nieces and nephews wrote about their grandparents. She included what photos she could find.
