Hindu Students Council at Tufts hosted the annual Saraswati Pooja on April 26th at the Remis Court at Tufts University. The Pooja was led by Ranjani Saigal. Preeta Banerjee, the Hindu Chaplain at Tufts coordinated the event.
The Pooja is an annual tradition where students seek the blessing of Goddess Saraswati before their final exams. Students were given Pratimas of mother that they performed the Shodashaopachara Pooja followed by the Saraswathi Ashtotara Namavali (reciting the 108 names of the Goddess).
Ranjani Saigal described the significance of the Saraswathi Pooja. “Devi, when worshipped will clear the mind of negativity and bring a clear vision. This would enable the students to do well in the exams†said Ranjani. Saraswati is a Goddess who has worshipped since the Vedic times. The Medha Suktam is considered a powerful prayer when chanted with the right intonation can bestow great powers. Ranjani chanted the Media Suktam.
The students brought their books, laptops and cell phones and sought the blessings of Mother. It was wonderful to see the sincere fashion in which the students participated in the prayers. Mother Saraswati’s blessing is surely upon them.
