IAB Hosts Town Rep Meeting | |
The Indian Americans for Burlington hosted a volunteer appreciation and town election candidate meet and greet on March 27, 2022. Members from the Indian American community had a chance to interact with the various candidates in-person.
The event was moderated by Shweta Bhat who was raised in Burlington. Shweta is a graduate of Burlington High School and Brown University. She shared her own experience growing up in Burlington and how it shaped her life and career.
During the past year, IAB was very actively engaged with various organizations in town to present a variety of events. IAB hosted its in-person flagship Diwali on the commons event. Workshops, competitions, story-telling and other events helped educate and entertain the residents of Burlington on Indian culture. IAB also held a food drive and donated to People Helping People. The committee members of IAB include Sheetal Bhammar, Deepa Agrawal, Swetha Mathur, Gini Dutta, Tanu Basu, Indra Deb, Anil Saigal, Khushboo Goel and Meenu Jethra.
The range of activities was made possible with the help of volunteers Prena Mathur, Prerna Joshi, Akshara Agrawal, Amisha Soni, Eesha Soni, Samira Patel, Vasantha Kannan, Sujatha Vijaya, Any Tapaswi, Rahul Roy, Peelu Kumar, Jharna Varshney, Raksha Soni, Renu Katta, Smita Kapadia, Minal Shingavi, Shubhangi Mali, Nitin Kumar, Shafali Bakre, Vinita Shah, Ansh Bhammar, Sachin Yeola, Atul Bhammar, Dev Dutta, Puneet Mohan, Nilesh Agrawal, Neil Bhammar and Pooja Singla.
Candidates Mike Espejo, Nicholas 'Nick' Priest, Jeremy Brooks, Melissa Massardo, Christine Monaco, William Pepicelli, Edward Weiner, Janice Cohen, Gayle DaMore, Robert Neufeld, Daniel Collins, Mimi Bix-Hylan, Sally Willard and Barbara L'Heureux presented their platforms at the events and answered questions. Questions ranged from policy questions, questions on understanding how the town government works, lack of bike lanes, cyber security, plans for upgrading and improving schools, and many more.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by the President, Shital Bhammar. It was a very informative event and helped a wonderful camaraderie between the town election candidates and the Indian American community who are there to serve the town.
