The third annual Bapu Open Golf Tournament and Mid Summer Ball was held at the Colonial Sheraton in Wakefield on Saturday, July 10, 2004. This event has grown from its humble beginning in 2002 when a handful of golfers got together on a fall afternoon and played a round of golf. They had snacks and drinks in the clubhouse and shared their golfing stories.

In 2003 the numbers grew significantly. The spouses of the golfers got involved and the ceremonial 19th hole festivities moved to the Sheraton Ball room.

2004 took Bapu Open Golf Tournament and Mid Summer Ball to a whole new level. The event was organized once again by Jaspal Singh along with Prithwi Thakuria, Dr. Salil Midha and Rajesh Tekchandani. Jaspal who owns Northside Dental Care, a dental practice in Peabody, with his Dentist wife Gurmeet Kour finds golf to be the proverbial relaxing activity, and that’s what he brought to this Indian golfing community event.

There was a strong showing for golf in the morning amid the best of golfing weather. The players brought their “A” game and Dr. Salil Midha walked away with the overall individual award scoring 75. Gurinder Sidhu came in with 78. There were many others with close scores making the event extremely competitive and fun.

In the evening the party moved to the Colonial Sheraton Ball Room where golfers along with their families and friends gathered for an evening of fun and frolic. There was a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres. The evening was a blast. It started with a welcome address by Prithwi Thakuria who handed it over to Jaspal Singh who addressed the gathering and handed out the awards to the winners. The dance floor was then opened and DJ Ricky took over. Before you knew it everyone was on the floor and danced the night away. Dinner was once again followed by dancing and it want on till late.

The event was a result of a lot of hard work on the part of Jaspal Singh with unrelenting help from Prithwi, Dr. Midha and Rajesh.
