I am writing about the International Folk Literature Festival that we plan to host in September. The full proposed title is Regional New England Folk Literature and Oral Poetry Festival. New England is home to many cultures and ethnicities. Our plan is to reach out to as many groups as we can and attempt a "World under a Roof" Poetry Festival. The target date is September 25, Saturday, 1 P to 5 PM. The location is Cambridge Public Library for an in-person event. If Covid spikes, we resort to a virtual session.
In New England, we are trying to connect to:
(1) American Indian (2) African American (3) Appalachian (4) Southern American (5) Latin American (6) French Canadian (7) Northern Canadian (8) Mexican (9) Cuban (10) Caribbean (11) Irish (12) German (13) French (14) Scandivavian (15) Italian (16) Greek (17) Russian (18) Chinese (19) Japanese (20) Arabic (21) Turkish (22) Jewish (23) South African (24) North African (Bedoin) groups.
We supplement these with South Asian submissions from Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Begali, Assamese and Nepali. A group of thirty distinct pieces of world poetry might form the final selection.
We are convening an organizational meeting to discuss and plan the event.
Please write to me privately if you would have interest in organizing the event.
We meet via Zoom on Sunday, July 25 at 4 PM.
