Bengali Chhanar Kalia

1 pound Paneer

4 medium potatoes cubed

3 tbsp ghee

2 bay leaves

1 tbsp ginger paste

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp hing

1 tsp red chilli paste

2 cloves

2 cardamoms

1 inch piece cinnamon

½ tsp sugar

5 tbsp yoghurt

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp  cilantro leaves chopped

1 cup water

 Method

Shallow fry potatoes and paneer. Drain well and keep aside. Heat Ghee and fry the bay leaf, then add ginger and cook well. Add turmeric, hing and red chilli paste and cook for 1 minute. Now add the potatoes. Make a paste of cloves, cardamom and cinnamon . Add paste, sugar, garam masala, salt and cook well. Add water and yoghurt, cover  till potatoes are cooked. Add paneer now and cook for another 5 minutes. Adjust seasonings and garnish with cilantro
